That's From Disneyland! ✧

As a Disneyland aficionado you can imagine my delight when I heard about the That’s From Disneyland pop-up exhibit. Initially, when I read about the showcase through social media, I was lucky that my upcoming trip to California would coincidentally allow time for me to visit. So, on August 12 I had the privilege of attending the one-of-a-kind auction/exhibit roughly an hour away from Disneyland in Sherman Oaks.

Over 900 rare items from Richard Kraft’s personal collection had been on display FOR FREE, which meant an hour-long wait outside in the California sun. Let’s be real; nothing was going to keep me away from seeing the infamous melted Snow White or Submarine Voyage mermaid.

Once inside I was no longer in an abandoned Sports Authority, but instead, I time traveled into a strange alternate version of a nostalgic Disneyland that I had only dreamed of visiting.

Main Street USA

Just like the real Disneyland, each area of the exhibit was divided into the themed lands of the iconic theme park.

I really admired the miniature Disneyland model they had on display that was heavily guarded by That’s from Disneyland staff.

This is by far my favorite photo of the Disneyland model. Partners forever.

Throughout the exhibit, I found an assortment of concept art, pamphlets, maps, guidebooks, etc., things I had only seen scans of. It was amazing to see some of these pieces in person.

One of the most instagrammable spots at the exhibit was the HUGE 16-foot-tall Disneyland Hotel Neon "D."

In retrospect, I wish I snapped a few more photos of this iconic sign that eventually sold for $75,000!

Another astonishing piece that was up for auction: a 1970s Cinderella window display! The attention to detail and condition (considering its age) was quite lovely!

Imagine the vintage Mickey’s Parade ice cream bars that came out of this cart.

Tomorrowland

From yesterday and on to tomorrow! TOMORROWLAND!

Ah, the PeopleMover.

Almost every time I enter Tomorrowland in Disneyland I rant about the PeopleMover because Imagineers in the late 90s were too ambitious and royally screwed up (thanks, Rocket Rods.) Today you can ride the PeopleMover at Walt Disney World, but I wish I were still able to experience the original attraction at Disneyland.

I truly wanted to take this entire thing home with me, but unlike a lot of the people who auctioned, I am not a millionaire.

From one of my favorite attractions: Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.

That’s an $80,000 Sea Serpent right there.

Submarine Voyage > Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.

Just like Indiana Jones, I gotta say, “That belongs in a museum!”

Adventureland

This was actually one of the first things I saw when I entered the exhibit: an organ from the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse!

One of the highlights of the Adventureland section was this original José animatronic that eventually sold $370,000.

Shockingly enough, this animatronic was still fully-functioning and on display for guests to see.

Frontierland & Bear Country

If you know me well enough, you know that The Country Bear Jamboree is one of my all-time favorite attractions at Disney. So, anytime I have a chance to see some original artifacts, I am interested.

I fell in love with this poster from a specially recorded version of the Golden Horseshoe Revue, in fact, I’ve had a reprint of it sitting in my eBay watch list for the past few years. When I was growing up, I would watch this special repetitively and seeing Annette perform Mr. Piano Man pretty much confirmed my sexuality. 😂

New Orleans Square

Shockingly, I felt like the New Orleans Square section was the least appealing section for me, despite the fact it is one of my favorites in the park. This area had a lot of concept art and the heavily congested stretching room portrait photo op.

Fantasyland

This emblem from the original 1959 Matterhorn Bobsleds is the essential Disneyland for me.

You don’t need a magic feather!

The iconic melted Snow White. Don’t let her appearance fool you, Snow White is still the fairest of them all for sale at an estimated $500-$700!

I was beyond ecstatic to find this sign in the collection because my friend Tony and I were discussing this Fantasyland shop just a few days prior. There’s not too much information about this shop out there, so it’s great to have some detail shots of the original sign.

This little friend from the It’s a Small World Clock Parade is something you never get to see up close and personal. What an amazing opportunity.

Even though I wasn’t able to explore all That’s From Disneyland had to offer, I still had a fantastic time checking out some of their priceless pieces. I hope this collaborative team decides to do another exhibit so I can actually experience some of their (sold out) events next time.
